Standards we hold ourselves to.

The Independent Waste Alliance is committed to promoting the solid waste and recycling industry through ethical business practices, professional conduct, and fair competition. All members agree to uphold the following standards.

1. Compliance

Members shall:

Maintain all required federal, state, and local licenses, permits, and certifications

Comply with environmental, safety, and transportation regulations applicable to waste hauling operations

Maintain required insurance coverage and bonding

Accurately report and pay all applicable taxes and fees

2. Integrity

Members shall:

Conduct business honestly and transparently with customers, vendors, and fellow members

Honor contractual obligations and commitments

Refrain from fraudulent billing, misrepresentation of services, or deceptive business practices

Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information shared within IWA forums

3. Professionalism

Members shall:

Treat fellow members, vendors, and industry participants with respect and courtesy

Maintain professional conduct at all IWA meetings, events, and communications

Address business disputes through appropriate channels, not through harassment or intimidation

Focus IWA activities on industry advancement, not personal business conflicts

Refrain from abusive, threatening, or harassing behavior toward other members

4. Competition

Members shall:

Compete vigorously and independently in the marketplace

Refrain from discussing or coordinating prices, bids, customers, territories, or other competitively sensitive information with competitors

Not use IWA meetings or activities to facilitate anticompetitive agreements or conduct

Recognize that aggressive competition, including competitive pricing and customer acquisition, is expected and lawful

Enforcement

Violations may result in warning, probation, suspension, or expulsion as determined by the IWA Board of Directors.

Members accused of violations will receive written notice and opportunity to respond before any disciplinary action. The Board's decision may be appealed in writing within 30 days.

By joining IWA, members acknowledge they have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.
